Estimate running-cost savings using your actual energy bills. Currently available for Newfoundland and Labrador with a Newfoundland Power benchmark; it does not represent Labrador utility rates.
This calculator compares your current heating spend with illustrative mini-split operating scenarios. It currently offers Newfoundland and Labrador in the location selector, using a recorded Newfoundland Power electricity benchmark. That benchmark applies to Newfoundland Power's service area, not Labrador utilities. Other provinces are not available yet.
With an annual heating-only electricity cost of $2,400 and full heating coverage, the displayed seasonal COP assumptions are 1.8–2.9. In this simplified same-rate comparison, estimated new heating cost is $2,400 ÷ COP: approximately $828–$1,333 a year. Subtracting that from $2,400 gives approximately $1,067–$1,572 in annual savings. These rounded results were checked against this calculator on September 19, 2026.
For the 50% coverage scenario, half the original heating cost remains with the existing system: new cost = $2,400 × 0.5 + ($2,400 × 0.5 ÷ COP). This gives approximately $1,614–$1,867 in annual heating cost and $533–$786 in savings. Neither example includes non-heating use or additional charges.
COP expresses heat delivered relative to electricity used. The range shown here is a scenario assumption, not a measured seasonal rating for your house or a promise for every product. The tool separately estimates the heating share of a mixed bill; read the explanation beside your result rather than treating the whole electricity bill as heating.
Climate, system sizing, room coverage, controls, defrost and backup operation can change actual costs. For fuel heating, the result also depends on fuel quantity or price and the assumed performance of the existing system. Do not apply the simple electricity-only example directly to an oil or gas bill.
No. Installation price, incentives, financing and maintenance costs are outside this operating-cost estimate. Fixed utility charges, taxes and cooling use can also change the final bill. Compare an installer quote separately and review the NL Oil to Electric program without subtracting an unapproved incentive.
The result links to the rate source and shows its recorded effective date. Check it against your own utility and tariff before relying on the estimate. The current record cites Newfoundland Power's rate book effective July 1, 2026; this is a reference, not a live tariff lookup.
