How to Compare Mini-Split Installation Quotes

Two mini-split quotes are comparable only when you understand the work behind each total. Use this guide after receiving written proposals. If you have not contacted companies yet, prepare a project brief using the quote-request checklist first.

Make a side-by-side scope sheet

For each proposal, record the indoor and outdoor model combination, number of heads, intended rooms, electrical work and commissioning. Mark an item as unspecified when the quote does not address it. Ask for clarification instead of treating a blank as either included or excluded.

A single-room installation and a multi-room design need to be reconciled before their prices are meaningfully compared.

Separate fixed prices from allowances

Identify items such as additional line length, panel work, difficult access, finishing and removal that may change after assessment. Ask for the condition that triggers an extra charge and how it will be authorised. Request taxes and optional upgrades separately so the accepted price is clear.

For a concrete NL example, Hickey’s published installation package lists electrical hookup as an exclusion. Check the current written quote for your own project.

Compare the warranty responsibilities

Keep manufacturer parts coverage, compressor terms and the installer’s labour commitment in separate columns. Ask who handles registration, diagnostic charges, travel and claims. A longer headline warranty does not explain every cost you might face during a service call.

Use the actual terms for the quoted models and company, not a general statement about the brand.

Check payment and completion terms

Record the deposit, payment milestones, planned timing and what counts as completed work. Ask how delays, substitutions and changes to the agreed scope will be documented. Ensure the final handover includes operating instructions and the records you need for equipment registration and future service.

Keep incentives and savings outside the base comparison

First compare the complete installed price. Then consider an incentive only against the official approval conditions. Review rebate information separately. The savings calculator estimates operating scenarios; it does not validate a quoted price or guarantee payback.

The cost-factor guide explains why different properties can require different scopes.

Resolve the unanswered questions before choosing

Send the missing items back to each contractor and retain the revised proposal. Choose using the confirmed scope, suitability and aftercare arrangements. Our company comparison tool compares recorded profile information; your written quotes supply the project-specific prices.
